Solar thermal

  • An unlimited energy

Every year, the sun sends to earth between 10,000 and 40,000 times more energy than we consume in the form of fossil energy.

  • 300 days of sun every year in PACA region

On average there are over 300 sunny days per year in the region Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, with some years, peaking at 330 days on the axis Aix-Marseille-Avignon, thanks to the north wind, the Mistral. This is the highest rate of sunshine in France.

  • A gesture for the environment

With insulation, solar thermal device is the cheapest and most effective (about 5x more efficient than photovoltaics) to contribute to the production of renewable energy (following the “Grenelle de l’environnement”, France has committed to achieve a minimum of 23% in 2020).

A solar combisystem (SCS) includes :

  • A boiler, consisting of panels in which circulates the water heated by sun
  • Distribution through a network of pipes (similar to the one used in conventional systems)
  • A device for thermal energy storage
  • Radiators (to redestribute the stored energy)
  • A regulation

In general, we add a backup system to overcome the shortcomings of the radiation. This additonal heating may be totally independent of the solar system (eg electric heaters), but it can also be coupled to the solar system. In this case it is the regulator that manages the start up and shutdown of the auxiliary boiler, depending on the sunlight and demand for heating or hot water.

The individual solar water heaters (CESI)

In 2010, more than 100,000 homes in France are equipped with individual solar water heaters.

Two types of solar water heaters are possible :

  • The solar water heater with seperated element
  • The monobloc solar water heater

The area of solar collectors depends on the climate of the region and the number of users of the facility.
